This book is a much needed modern interpretation of the various aspects of occupational medicine. It contains some 30 chapters, covering all aspects of occupational and preventive medicine, including a chapter on psychiatry. Of particular interest to otologists is an excellent chapter on Industrial Noise. This chapter gives a very penetrating and comprehensive review of the role of industrial noise in industry, and the part the physician and otologist should play. The authors discuss the difficulty in establishing damage risk criteria and the importance of a conservation of hearing program in industry. Since otologists will become more concerned with such a program, this book becomes a contribution in the field of otology.
