At the Fifth Pan-American Congress of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology and Broncho-Esophagology held in April, 1956, we presented a paper on the "Classification and Staging of Cancer of the Larynx and Hypopharynx," in which we tried to apply the recommendations of the International Union Against Cancer (I. U. A. C.) to the work that the Comité Latino-Americano para el Estudio del Cancer Laringeo had been doing since 1950 for the classification and determination of the clinical grade of malignancy of these tumors.
If we have not yet published this work, it is because we felt that discussion of the subject until now was not sufficiently spread among American specialists, and we preferred to wait until we had solved the largest possible number of points under controversy even by our Committee.
