The concepts and techniques presented in this monograph have launched us solidly into surgical neurotology.
It is the strong feeling of the authors of this monograph that this new area of surgery is a part of both otology and neurosurgery. Neurotologists or otoneurologists need additional training beyond their basic background of neurosurgery or otology to function effectively in this field. To get this training one needs the help of the other.
It is our sincere hope that promising young men from each of these disciplines will seek training in this new and rewarding surgery and the application of the techniques of microsurgery to these tumors.
Let us work together in the interest of these patients.
