It is known that reaction time (RT), or response latency, is a function of both the stimulus and the subject. Different stimuli (auditory, visual, tactile) yield different response times which will vary from subject to subject. Many different types of responses have been tested, including vasomotor, secretomotor, and muscular effects of auditory stimulation.The reaction time to an auditory stimulus is of interest since any reflex dependent on the auditory system can give information about the behavior of this system. Auditory reaction time has been and is still the subject of a great deal of basic and applied research. In the case of simple reaction time (one stimulus, one response) there is still some disagreement as to the effect of certain variables such as age and the amount of practice.
