Abstract

Professor Miehlke, Göttingen, Germany: Concerning the technique with the polyethylene cylinder, we are now beginning to use another type of cylinder with a silicon sheath. Dr. Campbell of New York University has pointed out that the sheath of silicon has a very good effect on the growth of new nerve fibers. The polyethylene type does not seem to be necessary at all. I did the last reconstruction of the branches of the facial nerve without any sheath or cylinder, and it proceeded smoothly.
