To the Editor: Dr. Smith (83:120, [Feb] 1966) brings to our attention the variety of symbols used to designate hearing loss on audiograms. Some of these can certainly be confusing, as he has pointed out. His own suggestions for standardization seem to be appealing but they too would invite justified differences of opinion.
The need for standardization of audiometric symbols should really be a project undertaken by our major otolaryngological societies.
