This book is an abundantly illustrated monograph, not an atlas, whose theme is Heermann's 'a, b and c' incisions that turn the key of the surgical door to endaural surgery. It is a compact volume, in part due to the author's assumption of the reader's previous knowledge of indications of common operations, the fundamentals of tympanoplasty, operative technique, and preoperative and postoperative care. It covers general information, mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, and the surgery of otosclerosis, and results.
The book is bilingual, German-English, and the authors must be commended for sharing this text with the English speaking world, as they and the publishers should be acclaimed for printing most of the illustrations in color. They well represent the text and are accompanied by both labeled line drawings and descriptions. Gross photography is excellent but some of the microphotography could be better.
The book offers little new information but much of the work
