Abstract

To the Editor.—There is a tremendously stimulating educational opportunity available to the otolaryngologists of this country but apparently many are not aware of it or are not using it to their greatest benefit. The purpose of this epistle is to focus attention upon this facility with the hope that it may stimulate interest in others.

During the past three months it was my privilege to participate in a Special Traineeship in otolaryngic pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), in Washington, DC. After its completion it is my opinion that this is an experience which should be considered by every otolaryngologist, especially those who teach.

Education in pathology has long been one of the weakest links in the otolaryngology departments of this country. To augment the instruction of residents where special training in pathology is not available and to stimulate interest in this neglected facet, about five
