The name of our specialty of otolaryngology, as far as the profession is concerned, implies major surgery of the head and neck. However, the average layman hasn't the slightest idea of the entire field.

I believe that a more descriptive title for our specialty is needed but I don't believe Dr. Bernstein's suggestion would be advantageous. It would simply add to the confusion in my opinion.
