Abstract

To the Editor.—Although Dr. Szpunar (and probably some other readers who like him and me have had some training in Latin) found the use of "inferior" instead of "inferius" rather irritating, I hope that this did not adversely affect their interest in the subject matter. A title such as "Chemedectoma of the Inferior 'Glomus Laryngicicum' " may have been more acceptable Latin-wise, but it would not have contained an accurate quotation of the name given to the glomus by Prof Kleinsasser who first described it, to whose paper reference was made, and whose diagram had been used in the paper. Furthermore the correction suggested by Dr. Szpunar, if adopted, would have necessitated a digression into Latin syntax and certainly appeared as an attempt to detract from the merit of Prof Kleinsasser's original work.

It has also been suggested that the use of "inferior" does not conform to modern anatomic nomenclature,
