Abstract

The use of a double horizontal incision is preferred for use in radical neck dissections for patients who have received irradiation to the neck. Three-point junctions should be avoided in the irradiated neck and a vertical limb dispensed with if possible. The adoption of the double horizontal incision in post-irradiation cases has almost doubled the primary healing rate.
