Rhinoplasty in Adolescence

Arch Otolaryngol. 1970;92(1):66-69. doi:10.1001/archotol.1970.04310010092012

Rhinoplasty should be delayed in adolescents until sufficient maturation has taken place. Firmness of the alar cartilages is an important criterion of nasal maturation. Age, sex, heredity, and general bodily development are factors which enter into the determination of the proper time for surgery. Accidental or surgical trauma disturbs the normal pattern of nasal and facial growth. The optimum age for rhinoplasty ranges from 18 to 21 years for boys and from 16 to 18 years for girls.
