Abstract

The role of the septum in nasal support was studied on a model with photoelastic properties in order to show changes in stress concentration with variations in load. The results indicated that the septum is of importance in nasal support. They also showed that stress concentration is more likely to occur at points where bone is sharply angled, indicating sites of potential weakness to injuries of the nasal skeleton.
