A comparative experimental study of lymph node yield in dogs by the classical radical neck dissection and functional neck dissection techniques proved both precedures to be equally effective in the en-block removal of lymph nodes in the neck. The rationale, advantages, and limitation of functional neck dissection are discussed in the light of present knowledge of anatomy and spread of cancer to lymph nodes.
