Discovery of bone resorption in a patient who had a plastic chin implant prompted the recall and roentgenographic examination of other patients with chin implants. Eleven of 25 showed bone resorption. One of the 11 had bony encapsulation of the implant. Patients for whom plastic chin implants are contemplated must be told of the possibility of bone resorption so that they can give informed consent to the procedure. The surgeon should also check the success of such implants with periodic radiographic examinations.
