Abstract

Anesthetic malignant hyperthermia due to a myopathy occurred in a 13-year-old girl. The treatment—most of it useless—is described in detail. What is required is to find a muscle relaxant that will work once the muscle spasm has been triggered off by an anesthetic or succinylcholine (suxamethonium [Great Britain]); the disease occurs in some breeds of pigs, a fact that should facilitate experimental research.
