In experiments with the prosthesis I have constructed, the sound transmission in the ossicular chain on the average was 4 to 5 dB poorer than in the normal chain. The ossicular chain was reconstructed surgery on 92 ears.
In ears where the hearing improvement essentially depended on the function of the reconstructed ossicular chain, the bone-air gap could be closed to 10 dB in 87% of the cases.
