Ankylosis of the cricoarytenoid joints occurred in a patient with ankylosing spondilitis (Marie-Struempell disease). The patient had dyspnea caused by progressive narrowing of the glottis, necessitating tracheostomy. Dysphagia also occurred due to inadequate elevation of the larynx during swallowing as demonstrated radiologically.
