The multiply handicapped deaf child offers a tremendous challenge in diagnosis and evaluation because his multiple handicaps are often a combination of physical, intellectual, and social ones. He commonly has a basic learning disability which is closely related to his lack of communicative skill and accomplishment. Various multidisciplinary methods must be used to appraise his capabilities and his limitations; and therefore close communication must occur between the pediatrician, otologist, neurologist, audiologist, ophthalmologist, and psychologist.
