In 1970 the publication of Future Shock by Alvin Toffler made many of us aware of the rapid changes occurring in our world. More progress has been made in the sciences during the last decade than in all bygone eras. These accelerated developments are noted everywhere in medicine, and plastic surgery has been a part of this movement. Our academy, whose life spans less than a decade, has made it its business to become deeply involved in these forces which will alter the character of this specialty. Seeds of change have been planted by the hard work and vision of our members. We anticipate that a bumper harvest of progress will be the end product of all this endeavor.
