Considerable interest in the possible benefit of acupuncture techniques in the treatment of cochleoneural deafness has recently developed. A 63-year-old white man had a bilateral flat-type cochlear-type loss, with severe tinnitus in the left ear.

Full audiometric and tomographic studies were done prior to acupuncture treatment and compared to results afterward. No change in hearing level or tinnitus was observed.
