To the Editor.—In the article entitled "Chondroma of the Larynx: Surgical Technique" by Damiani and Tucker published in the Archives (1981;107:399-402), the authors referred to the article by Kotton and Kalish published in the South AfricanMedical Journal (1976;50:885-889). The stent they are describing, however, is a modified stent described in an article published in Laryngoscope (1979;89:1983-1990). This modified stent contains an important safety feature not present in the original description. In two cases in which the original stent was used, it slipped down alongside the tracheostomy tube. This problem has not occurred with the modified stent. Therefore, it is important that only the modified type of stent be used.
