This book is the well-edited transactions of the papers that were presented and the discussions that occurred during the 85th Ciba Symposium entitled "Symposium on Tinnitus," conducted Jan 13-15, 1981, at the Ciba Foundation in London. Twenty-two participants, who devote a major portion of their professional lives to the subject of tinnitus, from France, England, Germany, New Zealand, and the United States met to deliver individual papers and to discuss these papers at length. After the symposium, task forces were formed to concentrate on the key issues of the symposium. The results of these task forces are printed in the book as appendices 1 through 3; they consider the definition and classification of tinnitus and guidelines for recommended procedures in tinnitus testing, and give a glossary of some relevant acoustical terms.
