This conference proceedings is published as a supplement to Scandinavian Audiology and consists of 38 papers in four sections with a summary of the discussions after each section. The conference was clearly multidisciplinary, but is set in perspective by the opening article by Professor R. R. A. Coles of England on the effects of impulse on hearing. There follows a section on the acoustical measurement of impulse noise dealing both with industrial and military impulse noise and the technical problems in measuring them. The next section deals with the effect of impulse noise on animals and includes both electrophysiological and morphological studies. The effect of hearing protection is then discussed in a further series of papers. Finally, there is a section on the hearing impairment caused by impulse noise.
The papers are variable in quality and technical content, but they serve a useful function, both as a source of reference
