This book is part of a recent five-volume series of surgical atlases in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, edited by K. Y. Lee. Written by Yanagisawa and Gardner, the volume itself is devoted to otology and neurootology and is, by and large, a good surgical atlas of otologic procedures. The book includes chapters on myringotomy, meatoplasty and canaloplasty, tympanoplasty/ossicular chain reconstruction, stapedectomy, mastoidectomy, tympanomastoidectomy, surgery for congenital anomalies of the ear, facial nerve surgery, balance-related surgery, and temporal bone tumor surgery. Additional chapters include tympanoplasty classifications of Wullstein and Farrior, information on homograft tympanoplasty, background information on mastoidectomy, and an excellent review article on photographic documentation.

Each otologic procedure is clearly illustrated and supplemented by helpful "step-by-step" comments. Throughout, the authors have attempted to include a mix of other surgeons' techniques, for instance, in myringoplasty, Sheehy's lateral technique, Sooy's pedicled graft technique, and Glasscock and Fisch's underlay technique for grafting the
