Abstract

The expression that you can't tell a book by its cover is clearly untrue in the case of this book by J. J. Ballenger. This 13th edition, which, for 76 years of continuous publication has been a labor of love for the Ballenger family, has for its cover La Gout, one of the series of 15th-century French tapestries entitled The Senses.

The addition of the words head and neck to the title of the book sets the stage for a variety of important and very positive additions and changes. New chapters have been added, such as hyperalimentation in the care of a patient with head and neck cancer, laser surgery in otolaryngology, computed tomographic (CT) scanning in otolaryngology, and skull base surgery.
