Abstract

Nose, Throat and Ears is the first of a planned 15-volume, third-edition update of William St Clair Symmers' treatise entitled Systemic Pathology. Apparently, each volume may be purchased separately.

Nose, Throat and Ears is edited by Dr I. Friedmann, emeritus professor of pathology at The University of London, with contributions from M. H. Bennett and J. Piris. It consists of 359 pages organized into five parts: the nose and paranasal sinuses, the nasopharynx, the tonsils and oropharynx, the larynx, and the ear. Unfortunately, disorders of the salivary glands and oral cavity are not included in this volume.

Each part begins with a brief review of normal anatomy and histology, and then focuses on a variety of nonneoplastic and neoplastic diseases common to that region. The discussion of each disease is succinct and provides, for the most part, an overview of the pertinent clinical and pathologic features, with emphasis on the
