Abstract

To the Editor.—The March 1987 issue of the Archives included an article by Dr Michael Sachs1 describing the use of microfibrillar collagen (Avitene) mixed with autogenous whole blood as a new technique for augmentation rhinoplasty.

Avitene is described in the Physician's Desk Reference as "an absorbable topical hemostatic agent." How do you account for Dr Sachs' resorption rate of 16% during a follow-up period of at least six months?
