Abstract

To the Editor.—The MEDICAL NEWS report on "Chemotherapy of Bilateral Acoustic Neuromas" in the October 1987 issue of the Archives describes the use of antitumor drugs in the treatment of patients with von Recklinghausen's disease. I call your attention to Riccardi's2 article in the Archives of Dermatology in which he described his early experience with ketotifen, a mast cell stabilizer, in the treatment of neurofibromatosis. Claman's3 review described the apparent decrease in size of the tumors as well as the possible role of mast cells in this disease. It might be of some interest for Drs Jahrsdoerfer and Benjamin to perform a crossover study with ketotifen in their patients.
