SOCIETY NEWS
Sociedad Brasileira de Pediatria.—This society held its eighth session on Oct. 15, 1930. Dr. Massilon Saboia read a paper on mental hygiene in pediatrics (to be reported later). Dr. Durval Vianna reported a case of osteochondritis in a child, aged 45 days, showing weakness of the arms, enlargement and rarefaction of the bones of the forearm at the level of the elbow, dry rhinitis, a negative Wassermann reaction and no splenomegaly. The mother's Wassermann reaction was strongly positive. Results were excellent following three series of mercurial injections. A discussion followed on the value of the various mercurial preparations. Dr. Saboia favored treatment by mercurial rubs and saline solution, whereas Dr. Oliveira has employed mercurial ointments with good results in all cases.
