Abstract

This volume offers a comprehensive discussion of the problem of rheumatic fever. The author has recorded her own observation, drawn from careful study over a long period of a large number of children suffering from rheumatic fever. Numerous figures and statistical tables supplement the text. Not only does the author present her own observations, but she has recorded the views of many other workers in this field. An extensive bibliography is appended.

The book is divided into five parts, including epidemiology and etiology, clinical and pathologic manifestations, course of rheumatic fever in the first three decades, diagnosis of rheumatic heart disease in children and care and management of the rheumatic child. In the author's discussion of the epidemiology of rheumatic fever, her extensive observations on the importance of heredity in relation to the familial incidence of rheumatic infection are of special interest.
