In this third edition more space has been given to the discussion of growth and development than in previous editions, and there is included material on mental and emotional, as well as physical, growth for the periods up to and including adolescence. The plan of the book is similar to that followed before. The first part is given over to general subjects—growth, feeding, hygiene, examination of the child, various diagnostic and therapeutic measures and pediatric institutions and organizations. The part on diseases starts with a section on infectious and communicable diseases, which is followed by sections on general nutritional diseases, metabolic derangements and miscellaneous disorders, including poisoning. After this the diseases are discussed according to systems.
