Dr. Bauer is well known to many American physicians who attended his lectures on "Endocrinology and Constitutional Pathology" in Vienna, where he was professor of medicine at the university from 1923 through 1938. This book is in part a response to requests for publication of these lectures in book form. The emphasis, however, is on constitution rather than on endocrinology, as the author is of the opinion that the latter field is adequately covered in American literature.
