Since Dick and Dochez published their reports on an antitoxin for scarlatina, the use of antitoxin in the treatment of this disease has been generally adopted, and the majority of papers dealing with the subject seem to confirm the belief that antitoxin is effective, at least in removing the toxic symptoms, when an appropriate dose is prescribed at a proper stage of the disease. Their work, however, does not seem to be based on sufficient and correct data, nor do they give any concrete opinions in regard to the dose and the time best fitted for its administration; rather these important points are left for future clinical studies.
