Everyone knows that an obesity epidemic exists in the United States right now. Unfortunately, almost nobody knows what to do about it. There are lots of ideas out there and huge numbers of advocates ready to push them, but if this was an easy problem to solve, the situation would already be improving. The causes of societal weight gain are complex and less well understood than we might like. Because of that, addressing the problem is difficult, and efforts have been littered with failures.
