This is a compact, handsome book with excellent illustrations and broad coverage of neonatal cardiology. Most chapters will be valuable to pediatric cardiologists and neonatal intensivists and the resident physicians working with them. The first few chapters, on embryology, genetics, and molecular biology, are not particularly useful for clinicians, but they contain material that may have found its way into board examinations. The last 3 chapters deal with postoperative care of infants, nursing care of infants with heart disease, and counseling families. They are well written and comprehensive and may be very useful to nurses and social workers as well as physicians.
