JAMA Pediatrics wants to encourage junior colleagues as they begin their careers. We are therefore conducting our annual contest among trainees for the best article submitted to JAMA Pediatrics by a trainee as first author. Trainees include students, residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and fellows. The article must be submitted within 6 months of completing the author’s training program (as confirmed by the author’s curriculum vitae). We will award 3 prizes of $1000 for winning articles. The paper should report on original research that was conducted by the trainee. The criteria for selection of the best articles will include metrics similar to those used by the National Institutes of Health in assessing grants:
