With this issue, I officially assume the role of editor in chief of JAMA Pediatrics (Video). It is a daunting and humbling task, especially as I take over from one of the true giants in academic pediatrics. Fred Rivara, MD, MPH, has edited the journal for almost 18 years, shepherding it from Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine to JAMA Pediatrics and tirelessly working to increase the quality of the journal.
