To the Editor An issue of JAMA Pediatrics included an interesting article by Anderson and Whitaker entitled “Association of Self-regulation With Obesity in Boys vs Girls in a US National Sample.”1 While it is important to acknowledge that obesity is a complex phenomenon that involves the interplay of genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors, this article, especially read out of context, risks overstating the boundaries of individual agency.
