Today’s physicians are pioneering a new era in communication with families. The growth of portal messaging, a communication method in which parents and clinicians exchange email-type messages via electronic health record portals, has created unprecedented opportunities and dilemmas in pediatrics. Parents have responded favorably to the convenience and increased access it affords and nationwide adoption has accelerated in recent years.1
