To the Editor We congratulate Meinhofer and Angleró-Díaz on the publication of their study regarding trends within foster care and parental drug use.1 As Meinhofer and Angleró-Díaz note, the results of the study closely mirror trends of the opioid epidemic that currently plagues the United States.1 The authors note that literature is scarce on associations between parental opioid use and foster care intervention.1 A follow-up of this study including new analysis, such as filtering for opioid-specific parental drug use as well as stratifying data by year from 2013 to 2017, can potentially expose trends within the opioid crisis and fill the paucity of literature on this topic.
