The second edition of this work has been brought up to date by a thorough discussion of the various methods that have been recently developed for the estimation of the sedimentation rate and of the diseases in which some variation has been found. The history, techniques, causes for errors, and normal values are given. Diseases discussed are tuberculosis, leprosy, typhoid fever, poliomyelitis, diphtheria, respiratory disturbances, rheumatism, rheumatic fever, diseases of the digestive apparatus, liver pathology, cardiovascular diseases, internal secretions, urinary disturbances, and surgical conditions. A final chapter is on its use in pediatrics. The author mentions several conditions, but believes the principal value is in tuberculosis, rheumatic fever, and chorea.

This is a very interesting and well-constructed book. It is written in Spanish, but it is easily read and should be of value to those interested in the subject.
