To my knowledge there is no similar book available in the Anglo-Saxon countries. The publication is aimed at the pediatrician and the general practitioner who wants to familarize himself more with the ear, nose, and throat disorders of children. It is a very comprehensive book, with chapters on diseases of the upper airway, Waldeyer's ring, esophagus, and the neck. The chapter on the ear is by far the most comprehensive. Amazing here to the American reader is the fact that the author advises early bilateral simple mastoidectomy in infants with a long-standing history of unexplained diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss, even in the absence of localized ear symptoms.

There is also a chapter on speech and voice written by Professor Dr. Luchsinger. It deals with the normal development of speech and the more common speech disturbances.

The book closes with a therapy index and a chapter on differential diagnoses.
