This book is a report of the fourth and last meeting of the World Health Organization Research Study Group on the Psychobiology of the Child. The permanent members of the study group have been John Bowlby, psychoanalysis; Frank Fremont-Smith, research promotion; G. R. Hargreaves, psychiatry; Barbel Inhelder, psychology; E. E. Krapf, psychiatry; Konrad Lorenz, ethology; Margaret Mead, cultural anthropology; Karl-Axel Milin, electrophysiology; Marcel Monnier, electrophysiology; Jean Piaget, psychology; J. M. Tanner, human biology; Grey Walter, electrophysiology; Rene Zazzo, psychology. Guests have been invited for each meeting. The guests at this fourth meeting were L. von Bertalanffy, general biology, and Erik Erikson, psychoanalysis. For pediatricians interested in the psychobiology of the child and familiar with some of the literature in this field, these names will be meaningful. This is indeed a group of eminent scholars.
