Isolation of the virus of measles in human tissue culture and its subsequent adaptation to growth in embryonated eggs and chick embryo cell culture by Enders and his colleagues 1-3 has led to the rapid development in the United States of vaccines suitable for use in the immunoprophylaxis of this disease.1 Similar achievements have been reported from the Soviet Union by Smorodintsev4 and Zhdanov.5 Clinical and immunologic evaluation of attenuated measles-virus vaccines derived from the Edmonston strain has revealed the relatively benign nature of vaccine-induced infection and potent immunogenicity of this virus.6-9 Our own studies have included comparisons of chick embryo cell-culture-derived vaccine with virus propagated in canine renal cell culture, the details of which have been presented in part previously. Summary of our experience with unmodified measles vaccine is the subject of this report.
