The field of pediatric surgery has grown and developed perhaps more rapidly in recent years than any other. Among the needs of the student are a knowledge of how children resemble adults and how they differ, what is common among them and what is rare, and when to do what for them.

The authors are eminently qualified to set down the essentials of pediatric surgery. The Hospital for Sick Children of London's Great Ormand Street has been a leader in the advance of surgical knowledge for many years. The authors have drawn not only from a huge volume of case material but from first-hand experimental work.

The Essentials of Paediatric Surgery is a small compact book of some 300 pages. The emphasis is upon recognition and diagnosis. The details of management are left to more lengthy works, but the principles are all included. There is a minimum of statistics. The
