This is an extensively revised and expanded edition of a rather popular textbook of general clinical endocrinology. It is made up of contributions from 21 authorities and represents a body of reasonably comprehensive material. The text continues to be of value to any clinician, and chapters concerning endocrine influences upon growth and development, genetics and endocrinology, parathyroid function, and disorders in sex differentiation are of particular pediatric interest. Sections on lipid metabolism, hormones and cancer, water and electrolyte metabolism, and the pineal gland are valuable additions to the revised volume.

Bibliographic entries are often highly selective; in several instances this selection proves to be a definite weakness. There are other more notable weaknesses. Certain chapters are so broad as to sacrifice essential excursions beyond the superficial. Hence, chapters dealing with the testis and adrenal leave much to be desired, while a section on the diagnosis and treatment of endocrinopathies might
