This excellent book contains information about children usually treated superficially or omitted in standard texts, ignored in current pediatric residency training, yet pertinent to problems commonly encountered by pediatricians. Its comprehensive and well-documented contents are compressed into 780 pages by use of small type and narrow page margins, reduction of information to table form, judicious selection of material, and concise writing. The index permits ready identification of subject matter, and there are adequate cross references within the text. Authorship by a single person (rather than compilation of offerings of a number of contributors) has produced a balanced and integrated book with consistency of emphasis and style.
Extensive coverage is given subjects such as growth and development, nutrition, behavior problems, immunization, mental retardation and other handicaps, community health programs for children, and selected topics in developmental physiology.
