In her very lucid and significant presentation describing the chaos that exists in communities around the country regarding the development of services, Dr. Thelander was in effect pleading for some new kind of community organizational patterns. We have discussed in some detail how we are going to train the scientists and the clinicians; we get some notion as to what legislation might make available in terms of resources. But will the direction in the future be just an expansion of the existing fragmentation of services that Dr. Thelander described? We need some reflection on two points: first, is there really a way to train people for roles in creative professional administration; and secondly, are we really going to let go of the boomerang Dr. Lourie talked about, are we going to be able to give up some of our "proprietary" or institutional interests in order to make it possible for
