This book represents a quite remarkable achievement and the reviewer would wish to express his admiration and gratitude to all who played a part in its production. Its appearance could not be more opportune, for surely at no time has there been such a lavishment of attention and interest heaped upon the vexed and multifaceted problems of mental retardation. Certain it is that other experts in this field may take issue with opinions expressed and conclusions drawn herein; strange were it not so. Nonetheless, this review offers a comprehensive yet selective study which will serve as a valuable source book to those already involved and as an exciting stimulus to those not yet intimately engaged.

It is perhaps understandable, if not inevitable, that at times one is given the impression, perhaps unwittingly, of how differently individual professionals regard the same problems, whether general or specific. This is doubtless nothing more
